This is a perennial native to our home; Canada. It is also found throughout northern Europe and the northern part of the U.S. It can grow up to 6 feet tall and tends to clump together. It prefers the wetlands but will survive in drier areas proving to be drought and frost resistent. This plant will not thrive in hot temperatures preferring a more moderate climate. It is at home in sandy soil. At harvest time it produces a very large amount of seed. Phalaris has been known to have a high tryptamine content containing many which are normally found in South American healing plants.
