Alpha Asarone – our product being synthetic unlike our extract from the Acorus americanus or sweet flag plant - currently enjoys popular use as a medicine or constituents thereof, and is often used to treat upset stomachs or act as a sedative. Additionally, this ‘essence’ of the sweet flag plant has been shown to have empathogenic qualities at lower levels of treatment, and entheogenic qualities at higher levels.
Alpha Asarone has been used to treat such ailments as high cholesterol, gallstones, hypertension, and general stress and strain. It has a well-established reputation as a sedative, but is known to cause more pronounced effects at higher levels of use. This substance is not unique to the Acorus genus, but is present in multiple plants, such as the Annonaceae family of flowering tropical and neo-tropical plants, many of which have been used for medicinal bark extractions in Central America for centuries.
This substance should NOT be confused with its carcinogenic twin Beta Asarone, which is known to contain cancer-causing agents. The North American species of the Acorus plant – the species from which this type of Alpha Asarone is extracted - does not contain any of the carcinogens contained by plants of the same genus such as the Acorus calamus or Acorus gramineus; plants native to both Europe and Asia.
